A quick closed-mouth kiss. Offensive to the sensibilities? Discuss.

Not offensive, even for those amongst my extended family (in South Africa) that consider themselves upper-class socialites (in the stodgy British sense).

Highly reliant on context, but generally I'd say...

An engaged couple; he's picking her up from work in front of coworkers.

I got the 'eeeeeeeeeeew, aw, guys, come on, get a room', which is highly humiliating, and I started to wonder what people really think about affection in public. Because I'm a academic like that, who can't just let an interesting social quirk go. :D

Nope, they're just being high school–level immature wankers.

I try not to feel humiliated by that kind of social throwback, since it just validates their stunted social sense.

Edit to add: If they're operating on that high school level, they're probably just jealous.

Not offensive at all, I think it's sweet.

When people are carrying on like they want to devour each others' faces in plain view though, that's kinda gross. But even then... turn your head and voila, it's like it doesn't exist!

Quick closed-mouth kiss? No.

Making out in front of co-workers? Usually I would say the line is drawn right about there. But, if that was their reaction to said closed-mouth, generally chaste, kiss -- then hell no. Try that next time. ;P

stumbled in from another LJ and thought I'd throw my 2 cents in.

Immature co-workers should have just stayed quiet. Hand holding, hugs and chaste kisses are perfectly fine. (that said, I might still say something like that if I really, REALLY, knew both people and I was just trying to be an immature brat with them, knowing I'd find my phone taped to the reciever or something later.)

Open mouth, shoving your tongue down the back of the other person's throat... not so much and that I could understand someone saying get a room.
